The pre-school room caters for children aged between 3 and 5 years of age. Our qualified and experienced members of staff will help your child develop through their ‘Learning Journey’ by providing fun and stimulating activities in a warm and friendly environment.

We work on a key worker system, with each key worker working in partnership with the parents to gather information about their child, helping them to get to know the child better. They then observe and assess each child whilst they play and monitor their development. We then plan activities according to each child’s individual needs and abilities.

The activities will be based around the principle of ‘learning through play’, which will help them prepare for the smooth transition onto school.

The children will enjoy a combination of planned, structured activities or ‘child initiated’ activities. Our planned activities are always flexible to accommodate suggestions from the children or parents. We follow the EYFS guidelines, which work around the 7 areas of learning.

These are the prime areas of:

  • Personal, Social & Emotional
  • Communication & Language
  • Physical development

And the specific areas of:

  • Expressive Art and Design
  • Literacy
  • Mathematics
  • Understanding the World

The children are encouraged to choose for themselves the activities they wish to pursue, helping to develop their independence and ability to make choices.

When the child moves onto school their key worker completes a ‘Record of Transfer’ sheet which is discussed with the parents before being passed on to the child’s reception class teacher.
